Annoucing the Acme Moto ADVENTURE RIDE RALLY
December 7 / 8 / 9  2008

Adventure Riding………Taking a bike places not normally traveled on two wheels.  Usually includes some dirt but not always…

Some people get really in to it, fall down from time to time and seem to enjoy it.

It can also include squirting out of a few corners on a dirt road while no one is looking…..

His first bike, R80Gs, was recommended to him by Dean Klein more than 10 years ago is the one he is riding now. He bought the bike and has been riding it since. This is his first bike ever!!!!

He has traveled the world and this is his latest adventure……

Mechanic's Tip for your motorcycles for this month is......

Winterizing Tips

Winterizing is a personal choice of a biker. He may or may not practice the same since it is mainly a product of discretion. But for those who are interested to winterize their bikes, here are some tested tips that they can bank on.

1. Before you winterize, check first if the bike has mechanical problems. If you have detected a defect, have it checked out at Acme Motorcycles before you proceed.
2. The
engine oil
and the oil filter must be replaced or changed.
3. Fill the gas tank. Then add stabilizer. To gauge the right quantity of the stabilizer, consult the instructions on its can. After that, run the bike for a few minutes.
4. After the run, check the bike's battery. Clean its
battery terminals
and connect a Battery Tender or similar trickle-charger.
5. Wash, clean, wipe and wax the bike.
6. Use
motorcycle cover
to protect the bike from other elements. Keep the bike in a warm garage.
7. Lastly, make it certain that the bike is locked up and its registration and papers are removed so as to avoid liability if in case the bike was stolen.

Ready yourself and your motorcycle apparel to action-packed spring adventures because by then, your bike will be in good working conditions without the hazards of the freezing winter!

The Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Park Report

or

Craziness is fun when it’s shared....

These last few months, I’ve made it a goal to ride all of the OHV parks within a reasonable driving distance from Fairview, and report on them so my fellow riders can start enjoying these great unpaved playgrounds.

In a moment, I’ll report on the first three parks I’ve ridden. But first, some words on your reporter. I am relatively new to this Dual Sport stuff. My last experience with an off-road bike was a TT500 Single Yamaha….a four-stroke single with gobs of torque. More than I could handle then, and the reason I did not touch anything with knobs on it until just recently... I kept falling down and getting beat up. Riding the TT was like riding a bull with a bad attitude. We did not get along.

Then I met Russ, who led to my most recent passion: dirt. Russ was kindly willing to put me on his beloved Trans Alp and let me follow him down a couple of dirt roads. He was very patient; I was mostly worried about being the one who cracked the plastic on his pristine machine. At first it was a little shaky but I found with a little time and advice from Russ, I could at least not embarrass myself too much. (I never dropped his bike…good thing…have you seen how big Russ is............

Visibility…….You really need to be seen!!

My friend Linda Cluxton seen here in a picture taken a couple of years back with a friend some of you may recognize if you have watched On Any Sunday, sent me this web connection the other day.

Linda has a lot of experience on two wheels including riding for the Acme All Stars...

I think she has a good idea. She suggested that Acme make as much of this stuff available as possible to our customers. We have a lot of it already and we will continue to find items to make you more visible…..now about the Mohawk Hair helmet decoration. That may be special order.

From the shop..........
Acme Motorcycles

Just about every day a customer brings us a tire with a Parts Unlimited tag (one of their biggest warehouses happens to be in Flat Rock-30 minutes away) and asks us to mount it for them. (This raises a question: would you take your own eggs to the Waffle House – and expect them to happily cook them?) We will mount these tires, but sheesh!

Sometimes when the tire-bringer is a regular customer, I ask where the tire came from and its price? Most times, it’s via the internet or from a local dealer who does not have time or willingness to mount it quickly. So, I decided that it was time to check these guys out and see what made their deal so attractive. I checked with a well-known online seller...........
